St. Clair County State's Attorney Robert Haida announced Tuesday that he will run for circuit judge next year.

Haida intends to seek the seat that will open in the Twentieth Circuit when St. Clair County Circuit Judge Patrick Young retires.

Haida told media outlets he would run, which means if he is elected that the head of St. Clair County Board, Mark Kern, will pick Haida's replacement as State's Attorney.

Messages were left for Haida seeking comment Wednesday morning.

Young said Wednesday that he plans to retire Nov. 30, 2010. He does not have plans beyond that date.

"Hopefully, I'll be retired," Young said. Young has been a judge for 14 years.

Haida was elected to his current post in 1991. He had previously served as an assistant state's attorney and as an assistant United States' Attorney in the Southern District of Illinois.
