Husband sues driver over wife's death

The husband of a recently deceased woman has filed suit against the driver who he blames for her death.

Thomas Mayes filed a lawsuit Sept. 9 in Madison County Circuit Court on behalf of Mary Ann Mayes against Ruth M. Williams.

Thomas Mayes claims his wife was riding in a car Williams was driving on Illinois Route 4 about .5 miles north of Williamson Road in Olive Township on April 8 at about 3:27 p.m. when an accident occurred.

Suddenly Williams's vehicle traveled off the road, down an embankment and into a field, causing injuries to Mary Ann Mayes that led to her June 10 death, according to the complaint.

Before her death, Mary Ann Mayes suffered pain and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Because of his wife's death, Thomas Mayes claims he has suffered mental anguish and emotional pain and lost the benefit his wife's support, services and society, including her love, attention, care, comfort, guidance, companionship, protection and support. In addition, he incurred funeral costs, according to the complaint.

In the two-count suit, Thomas Mayes is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Marc W. Parker of LakinChapman in Wood River will be representing him.
