Woman struck by truck sues

A Madison County woman claims she was struck by a truck after it attempted to make a left turn directly into her path.

Amber D. Ware filed a lawsuit Sept. 1 in Madison County Circuit Court against Beelman Truck Company.

Ware claims she was driving east on Illinois Highway 203, which is also known as Edwardsville Road, at its intersection with 20th Street on Oct. 20 at about 8:50 a.m. when Shaun D. Reid, who was driving a truck for Beelman Truck Company west at the same intersection, attempted to turn left. Instead, Reid crashed into Ware, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, Ware suffered severe personal injuries, experienced pain and suffering, lost her enjoyment of life and was forced to seek medical attention, the suit states.

Ware says Beelman was responsible for Reid's actions when he failed to maintain control of their vehicle, failed to drive within the boundaries of the road, failed to drive at a reasonable speed, drove too fast for conditions and drove with insufficient rest, among other negligent acts, the complaint says.

Ware claims Beelman should have known Reid was unfit to drive a motor vehicle and was not qualified to drive a semi-tractor. In addition, Beelman failed to conduct a reasonable investigation into Reid's prior employment, according to the complaint.

In the three-count suit, Ware is seeking a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs.

Steven M. Dioneda of Kullmann, Klein and Dioneda in St. Louis will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-909.
