City of Belleville sues Centrue over Westhaven Meadows' unpaid improvements

The city of Belleville filed a lawsuit against Centrue Bank after it allegedly failed to pay more than $170,000.

In its lawsuit filed Aug. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Belleville claims Centrue Bank entered into an irrevocable letter of credit with Belleville on Sept. 7, 2007.

Westhaven Meadows failed to pay costs for completing improvements in Westhaven Meadows Phase II and failed to complete Maple Drive improvements and Illinois Department of Transportation Route 159 improvements, according to the complaint.

So, on May 26 and on June 26, Belleville demanded Centrue Bank pay it $171,920 for Westhaven Meadows's failure to pay for the improvements made, the suit states. However, Centrue Bank has refused to honor the terms of the contract, the complaint says.

In addition to the money it says it is owed, Belleville is seeking costs.

Robert J. Sprague of Sprague and Urban in Belleville will be representing it.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-453.
