Man sues US Steel after falling through hole

A man says he fell through a hole while working as a licensee on the premises of United States Steel Corporation.

Roger Spears filed a lawsuit Aug. 26 in Madison County Circuit Court against United States Steel Corporation.

Spears claims he was visiting the premises on April 14 when he fell into a hole in the concrete floor.

Because of his fall, Spears injured his left ankle and foot, experienced pain and suffering, incurred medical expenses and sustained disability and a diminution of his earning capacity, all of which will continue into the future, the suit states.

He blames United States Steel Corporation for negligently failing to properly inspect its floors, for failing to warn him of the hazardous flooring conditions, for allowing water to accumulate in a hole on the floor and for failing to maintain its floors.

Spears is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus costs.

Lance R. Mallon and Dawna M. Hale of Mallon Law Firm in Wood River will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-885.
