Basement wasn't waterproofed, couple says in suit

A Granite City couple say a Maryville company failed to waterproof their basement after multiple attempts.

Steve Signal and Elizabeth Signal filed a complaint May 29 in Madison County Circuit Court against Construction Drilling Company.

The Signals say they hired the company on April 1, 2005, to repair their home located at 1376 Lee so that their basement would become waterproof.

Along with the work, Construction Drilling Company provided a five-year warranty, according to the complaint.

Shortly after Construction Drilling Company completed the work, it became clear the basement was not waterproof, the complaint says.

"Construction Drilling Company made several inspections and attempts at repair, but all have failed," the suit states.

The Signals say Construction Drilling Company breached the contract it made with the couple.

"As a result, the basement, including the substantial improvements made, were severely damaged," the suit states.

The Signals are seeking more than $50,000, plus costs.

Ronald A. Roth of Roth Evans in Granite City will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-552.
