A woman has filed a lawsuit in the hopes of obtaining more than $50,000 after she says she was struck by a car while crossing the street.

Darlene M. Genteman filed a lawsuit May 28 in Madison County Circuit Court against Natalie Marron.

Genteman says she was walking west within a crosswalk across Walnut Street near its intersection with Ninth Street in Highland on Sept. 6 when Marron, who was driving south on Walnut Street, struck her.

Because of the collision, Genteman sustained injuries to her head, face, neck, shoulders, back, legs and body and suffered great pain and mental anguish, the complaint says. She also incurred medical costs and lost large sums of money because of her inability to pursue her normal occupation, according to the complaint.

Marron was negligent by failing to keep her vehicle under proper control, by failing to keep a proper lookout for pedestrians in crosswalks, by driving too fast and by failing to yield the right-of-way, the suit states.

In addition to the $50,000, Genteman is seeking costs.

Matthew A. Marison of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-540.
