An Illinois woman says she miscarried her baby after a Belleville man attempted to make a U-turn in front of her.
Jamie Heusohn filed a lawsuit individually and as mother and next friend of baby Heusohn against Arthur Coplen on May 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Heusohn says she was driving her vehicle south on Kaskaskia Road on May 24, 2007, when Coplen attempted a U-turn out of a private drive and into her path, the suit states.
"At said time and place Jamie Heusohn collided with Coplen's vehicle, and ran into a ditch," the complaint says.
Because of the collision, the baby Heusohn was carrying died, she claims. In addition, Heusohn sustained injuries to her stomach, wrist and nerves, incurred medical costs, experienced pain and suffering and lost her enjoyment of life, the complaint says. She also lost her wage earning capacity, the suit states.
Heusohn's car was "totally destroyed" and she incurred expenses such as loss of use, according to the complaint.
Heusohn claims her total damages amounted to more than $60,000.
Coplen negligently failed to yield the right-of-way and attempted a U-turn on a highway, the suit states.
Heuson is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus other relief the court deems just.
Michael L. McGlynn of McGlynn and McGlynn in Belleville will be representing her.
