Chouteau Township accident is subject of suit

Brandon D. Scarborough of Macoupin County is suing Donn Wesley Gunter of St. Louis County and Associated Couriers over injuries he received in an automobile accident that happened May 14, 2007, on Interstate 270 in Chouteau Township.

Scarborough, who was a passenger in a vehicle traveling west on 270 at about 6:30 a.m., claims Gunter, who was driving behind the vehicle in which Scarborough was riding, struck the rear of the automobile.

According to the complaint filed May 13 in Madison County Circuit Court, Gunter was working for Associated Couriers and driving one of the company's vehicles at the time of the collision.

Gunter failed to reduce his speed to avoid an accident, followed the vehicle in front of him too closely and recklessly drove, the suit states.

Scarborough sustained injuries to his neck and back, experienced pain and suffering, incurred medical expenses and suffered a reduced amount of daily activities and a diminished quality of life, he says. He will incur future pain, suffering and expenses, the complaint says.

In the two-count suit, Scarborough is seeking damages in excess of $100,000, plus costs.

David L. Blunt of Blunt Slocomb in Edwardsville will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-489.
