I-255 accident is subject of suit

Dekisha Jones of St. Clair County is suing Bruce Coombs of Florida and DB&T Stephens & Co. over an auto accident that occurred May 17, 2007 on southbound Interstate 255.

In a suit filed May 13 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Jones claims Coombs violently struck her vehicle and was negligent for failing to keep a proper lookout.

DB&T Stephens & Co. is named as a defendant because Coombs was within the scope of his duties as its agent, the complaint states.

Among other things, Jones also claims Coombs failed to keep his vehicle under control, failed to apply his brakes, failed to decrease his speed so as to avoid striking her and failed to change the course of his vehicle even though he had ample time and opportunity to do so.

Jones claims she sustained severe and permanent internal and external injuries to her head, neck, back and body as a whole. She also suffered a pulmonary embolism, the suit states.

Jones claims she is liable for large sums of money for hospital, medical and surgical services, nursing care and attention and rehabilitation services in and about endeavoring to become healed and cured of her injuries.

She is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages.

Jones is represented by Michael Hickey of Fairview Heights.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09L250.
