Adrienne Martin-Haire is suing Interstate Brands Corp. over injuries she sustained at its Belleville store on Jan. 9.
Interstate Brands distributes Wonder Bread and Hostess Cake products.
Martin-Haire claims that while she was checking out she slipped and fell on a mat that employees had placed on the floor.
She claims Interstate Brands is negligent for placing a wet mat in an area where customers would encounter it. She also claims the store failed to provide a safe means of ingress and egress, failed to warn of the wet mat, failed to warn of the hazardous condition and failed to exercise reasonable care in the maintenance of the premises.
According to the complaint, Martin-Haire has suffered pain, lost wages, lost enjoyment of life and suffered disability as a result of the defendant's alleged negligence.
Martin-Haire is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages, plus costs.
She is represented by Jarrod Beasley of the Kuehn Law Firm in Belleville.
