Cahokia pedestrian accident is subject of suit

The father of a minor girl is suing a man who allegedly hit the girl with his vehicle as she was walking down the road.

William Hickman filed a suit individually and on behalf of his minor daughter, Bobbie Hickman, on May 13 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dartavus B. Allen.

William Hickman claims his daughter, Bobbie Hickman, was walking in the 800 block of Falling Springs Road in Cahokia on April 13 when Allen, who was driving south and approaching her, collided with her.

"At the time and place aforesaid, the defendant, Dartavus B. Allen, negligently drove his automobile off the traveled surface of Falling Springs Road, through a driveway, into a yard located alongside thereof, as a proximate result, in whole or in part, of the negligence of the defendant," the suit states.

Because of the accident, Bobbie Hickman sustained injuries and suffered pain, permanent disability and disfigurement, the complaint says.

William Hickman claims he incurred medical costs.

Allen negligently drove too fast, failed to drive within a single lane, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to swerve to avoid a collision, according to the complaint.

In the two-count suit, William Hickman is seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.

Brad L. Badgley of Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-244.
