A woman says an automatic door caused her to injure her back after it swung into her, making her fall.
Paula Daley says she was shopping at the Fairview Heights Aldi on July 5, 2007, when the incident occurred.
"While shopping at the grocery store, a malfunctioning automatic door swung open repeatedly into the plaintiff, causing her to fall and sustain injuries," the complaint filed May 8 in St. Clair County Circuit Court states.
In addition to her back injuries, Daley lost large amounts of money because of her inability to work and incurred medical expenses, according to court records.
Aldi was negligent by failing to warn Daley the door was malfunctioning, by failing to maintain the grocery entryway door and by failing to inspect the door for malfunctions, Daley alleges.
She is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.
She is represented by Matthew A. Marison of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville.
St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-235.
