SimmonsCooper donations kick in for Giannoulias

Browder has donated $2,400

Barnerd has donated $2,400

Attorneys, staff and relatives of East Alton asbestos firm SimmonsCooper have so far contributed more than $60,000 to the U.S. Senate campaign of Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias.

Giannoulias, a Democrat from Chicago, announced March 2 he would seek the Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama, and since then has raised approximately $1 million.

U.S. Senator Roland Burris, the Democrat who currently holds the seat, was appointed by embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich before he was removed from office Jan. 30. Burris has not yet announced whether he plans to run for the seat in 2010.
