Macon County woman sues over auto accident

A Macon County woman claims she was injured after a St. Clair County man struck her while she was riding in a car.

Kenya Roberts was riding in a car on the north bound lane of Oakland when Mark Steiner, who was driving in the same direction, collided with the vehicle in which she was riding, according to the complaint filed Feb. 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Roberts sustained injuries to her neck, back and body, was hindered and prevented from attending to her usual duties and affairs and lost large sums of money, the suit states.

Roberts also claims she experienced great pain, suffering and anguish and incurred medical expenses.

Steiner was negligent by failing to keep a proper lookout, by failing to observe Roberts when he should have to avoid striking her, by failing to keep his vehicle under control, by failing to apply his brakes, by failing to decrease the speed of his vehicle, by failing to turn and change the course of his vehicle to avoid striking the vehicle in which Roberts was riding and by failing to give proper warning, according to the complaint.

He also negligently drove too closely to the vehicle in which Roberts was riding, the suit states.

Roberts is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

Michael P. Hickey of Brown and Brown in Fairview Heights will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-0090.
