Injuries claimed in Route 159 accident

Jamie McCormick has filed suit against Kayla Patterson, alleging she was injured after Patterson rear-ended the vehicle in which she was riding.

McCormick was a passenger in a vehicle traveling on North Illinois at its intersection with Illinois Route 159 in Fairview Heights on Dec. 20 when Patterson, who was traveling in the same direction, struck the rear of the vehicle, according to the complaint filed Feb. 9 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, McCormick was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled, received injuries to her neck, shoulders and low back and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

She also claims she experienced pain and suffering, lost money from a loss of wages and will suffer an impairment of her future earning capacity.

Patterson was negligent by failing to keep a proper lookout for other vehicles, by driving in such a manner that she struck the rear of the vehicle in which McCormick was riding, by failing to brake, by driving too fast for the traffic on the road and by following the vehicle in front of her too closely, according to the complaint.

McCormick is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

Thomas C. Rick and Jennifer L. Barbieri of Fairview Heights will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-0072.
