Bicyclist sues motorist over injuries on highway

A man claims he was seriously injured after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle.

David J. Weidler was riding his bike east on Illinois State Route 161 near its intersection with Radio Range Road in Shiloh Valley Township on March 28, 2007, when he was hit by Edmund E. Geary, according to the complaint filed Feb. 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Weidler has been prevented from participating in his ordinary affairs and has suffered great pain, the suit states.

He claims he has also incurred medical expenses, lost sums of money and sustained permanent disability.

Geary owed Weidler a duty to use reasonable care and caution, but breached that duty by failing to yield the right-of-way during a left turn and by failing to keep control of his vehicle, according to the complaint.

Weidler is seeking a judgment in excess of $15,000, plus costs.

Bernard J. Ysursa of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville and Curtis L. Blood in Collinsville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-0064.
