A former employee of Alton Memorial Hospital claims he was fired because he exercised his workers' compensation rights.
Sean Williams claims he began working for the hospital in January 2001 and was injured on March 10, 2005.
But he was discharged from his employment on May 19 for exercising his rights under the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act, according to the complaint filed Jan. 30 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Because of his termination, Williams claims he has lost wages, benefits, raises and promotions, has spent money attempting to secure employment and has suffered humiliation and mental distress.
Williams is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
Lance R. Mallon of the Mallon Law Firm in Wood River will be representing him.
