A former Union Pacific Railroad Company employee claims he contracted pancreatic cancer when he was exposed to asbestos while working for the company.
Tommie Davis claims that while he worked for Union Pacific from August 1968 until March 31, 2006, as a brakeman and conductor, he was exposed to asbestos and other toxic substances that caused him to develop pancreatic cancer.
Because of his cancer, Davis suffered great pain and disability, mental anguish and extreme nervousness, according to the complaint filed Jan. 15 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
He also incurred substantial medical expenses and lost large amounts of income because of his disability, the suit states.
Davis claims Union Pacific was negligent by failing to provide him with a safe place to work and by permitting unsafe work practices to become routine.
Davis is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.
