Woman sues Belleville over injuries in trip on sidewalk

St. Clair County resident Martha Flannery is suing the city of Belleville for injuries she sustained tripping and falling on an uneven and elevated portion of a sidewalk.

According to a complaint filed Nov. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Flannery was walking westbound on the southeast corner of Public Square on Nov. 9, 2007, where the incident occurred.

Among other things, Flannery claims the city is negligent for failing to have its personnel "undertake reparation of the hazardous area in the sidewalk."

As a result of the incident, Flannery sustained a broken nose, broken knee cap, broken arm and facial injuries.

She is represented by James A. Gomric of O'Gara & Gomric of Belleville.

Flannery is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages.
