Madigan
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said Monday that 166 teams of investigators will monitor today's general election.
In a statement, the Democratic attorney general said she is dispatching the teams of investigators and assistant AGs from her office "to ensure polling places are accessible and that Illinoisans' voting rights are protected."
She said the teams will observe activity in and around polling places and investigate claims of voter fraud or voting irregularities.
The attorney general's office said 125 teams will be assigned to monitor voting in northern Illinois, including Chicago. The other 41 teams will work in other parts of the state.
Madigan also said in the statement that voters have some basic rights, including the right to a replacement ballot if they notice a mistake before casting their ballot and that voters have the right to take unpaid time from work to vote, but no more than two successive hours, as long as they have applied with their employer before Election Day.
She also noted that no one is allowed to try to influence a voter within 100 feet of polling places.
