Blue Top Tavern sued by customer shot numerous times

Edwin and Robin Smith Gladney have filed suit against Blue Top Tavern, alleging Edwin was shot multiple times by a patron who was intoxicated from liquor the bar sold him.

Edwin was at Blue Top Tavern Sept. 16, 2007, at about 12:45 a.m. when he was assaulted and shot numerous times by an intoxicated person, according to the complaint filed Sept. 15 in St. Clair Circuit Court.

At the time of the shooting, the person was intoxicated through liquor sold him by the inn, the suit states.

Edwin claims he has sustained injuries to his right and left legs and multiple gun shot wounds that required surgery.

He claims he has suffered a loss of wages, medical costs and pain and suffering.

Robin claims she has suffered a loss for society, love, affection, care, attention, companionship, comfort, guidance and protection of her husband

In the two-count suit, the Gladneys are seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.

They are being represented by Carolyn G. Caruthers of St. Louis.
