Beverly McClendon has filed suit against Evergreen Chinese Buffet, claiming she was injured after a chair the buffet owned collapsed.
McClendon was a patron of the restaurant Oct. 14, 2006, according to the complaint filed Sept. 17 in St. Clair Circuit Court.
She attempted to sit in a chair at the buffet when it collapsed, causing her to fall and injure herself, the suit states.
As a result of the fall, McClendon claims she suffered injuries, a loss of normal life, disfigurement, pain and suffering and medical costs.
Evergreen Chinese Buffet was negligent because it did not provide a safe chair to sit in and because it had knowledge of the chair's condition and had time to repair it, the suit states.
McClendon is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.
Benjamin F. Goldenhersh of Goldenhersh & Goldenhersh in Belleville will be representing her.
