Gary and Michael Melton have filed suit against Stanley Depee, alleging they received multiple injuries after the vehicle Depee was driving rear-ended theirs.
The Meltons claim they were traveling west on Interstate 55/70/64 on Poplar Street Bridge in St. Clair County when their vehicle was struck from behind by Depee's automobile, according to a complaint filed Sept. 8 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Both Meltons were sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled as a result of the accident, the suit states.
They claim they also suffered extensive injuries to their heads, bodies, limbs, knees, necks, shoulders, low backs, and soft tissues.
In addition, Michael, who was a passenger, suffered a hip injury, according to the complaint.
The Meltons incurred medical costs, suffered disability because of the injuries and experienced pain and suffering, the suit states.
They claim Depee was negligent because he failed to keep a proper lookout and to properly apply the brakes.
He also negligently operated his vehicle at an excessive speed and followed the Melton's vehicle too closely, according to the complaint.
The Meltons are seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000.
They are represented by Thomas C. Rich.
