Holly Hawkins has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, alleging she had post-operative complications.
According to the complaint filed Sept. 8 in St. Clair County Court, Ahmed performed an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatolograhy (ERCP) on Oct. 2.
Hawkins alleges Ahmed was negligent because he failed to obtain appropriate objective evidence for the need of an ERCP, failed to diagnose post-operative complications, failed to adequately treat post-operative complications and failed to discover during the procedure that certain anatomy had been compromised.
She claims as a result of the negligence of Ahmed, she suffered severe and permanently disabling and disfiguring injuries including sepsis.
She also claims she has sustained great pain and mental anguish and has the lost the ability to pursue her normal job causing her a loss of wages.
In addition, Hawkins alleges she has spent substantial amounts on medical bills.
She is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.
Gregory L. Shevlin of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin in Belleville will represent Hawkins.
