A Clinton County man who claims he was stabbed in the chest and torso by a customer of Hurricane's Bar & Grill in Collinsville last year is suing his attacker and the bar for damages in excess of $100,000.
Douglas D. Murphy alleges Michael W. Alstat of St. Clair County drank in excess of 15 beers then attacked and stabbed him multiple times on July 29, 2007, according to a complaint filed July 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Murphy alleges Alstat was allowed by co-defendant Hurricane's to become "extremely" intoxicated. The bar's owner, Timothy A. Johnson, also is named as a defendant.
He also claims Alstat attempted to run him over with a vehicle at the site of the attack, which was a White Castle Restaurant in Belleville, the suit claims.
"Plaintiff suffered severe and permanent injuries to his lung and organs in the chest cavity," the complaint states.
Murphy claims he has incurred medical expenses in excess of $60,000.
"He was required to undergo surgery and has permanent scars on his chest," the complaint states.
Murphy is represented by Stephen P. McGlynn of McGlynn & McGlynn of Belleville.
