Metro passenger seeks $75k for slipping on water

Metro

Janet Bateman is seeking in excess of $75,000 for severe and permanent injuries she sustained after slipping and falling March 12 while boarding a Metro train at the East St. Louis station.

She claims Bi-State Development Agency, doing business as Metro, negligently failed to remove water from a train's entrance for an unreasonably long period of time, according to a personal injury suit filed June 12 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

She also claims Bi-State is negligent for failing to warn her that the entrance was unsafe and hazardous.

Bateman is represented by Jason R. Caraway of the Kirkpatrick Law Offices in Belleville.

"That as a result of the aforementioned negligent acts or omissions, the plaintiff has suffered severe and permanent injuries," the complaint states. "She has and will in the future endure a great deal of pain and emotional suffering."
