Soccer for Fun named in heel injury lawsuit

Soccer for Fun

A woman who injured her heel at Soccer for Fun has filed a personal injury complaint against the Pontoon Beach sports park.

Mary Anna Newcomb claims she was attempting to enter Soccer for Fun's main entrance on Nov. 24, 2007, when the door "violently slammed" on her right heel causing her to sustain painful injuries.

Soccer for Fun is located at 4141 Highway 111 in Pontoon Beach.

According to the complaint filed June 5 in Madison County Circuit Court, Newcomb claims Soccer for Fun was negligent by allowing its main entrance doorway to remain broken and inoperable and failed to replace or repair it.

Soccer for Fun's alleged negligence caused Newcomb's bones, nerves, ligaments and muscles in her heel to be "greatly lacerated, bruised, crushed and displaced" which hindered and prevented her from attending to her usual duties and affairs.

Newcomb also claims her heel injury has and will cause her to become liable for large sums of money for hospital and medical treatment in endeavoring to become cured of her injuries and has and will in the future cause her to lose large sums of money which she otherwise would have earned.

Represented by Joseph Hoefert of Alton, Newcomb is seeking damages in excess of $15,000, but less than $50,000, plus costs of the suit.

The case is scheduled for mandatory arbitration.
