A woman who allegedly tripped over debris in an aisle at the Collinsville Value City Furniture store filed suit May 29 in Madison County Circuit Court seeking damages in excess of $50,000 for injuries she sustained.
Linda Shevlin claims she was at Value City on Feb. 17, 2007, when she was walking down an aisle and was caused to fall.
Represented by Gregory Shevlin of Belleville, Shevlin claims Value City negligently failed to remove debris from the aisle when it knew or should have known that the debris presented a danger to patrons.
She also claims that Value City failed to inspect aisles of the store, failed to develop an adequate system for discovery and removal of debris, failed to remove pieces of broken merchandise from the aisle and failed to warn patrons of debris in the aisle.
Shevlin claims the fall caused her to sustain severe and permanently disabling injuries to her knee, back and body as a whole which caused and continues to cause great pain and mental anguish, lost wages and medical expenses.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian.
