Roofing hammer used in assault, says dram shop suit against Shop N Save

Shop N Save

An East Alton man filed a dram shop complaint against Shop N Save in Madison County Circuit Court May 16, alleging the grocery store sold intoxicating liquors to a man who later assaulted him with a roofing hammer.

Lance Gold claims the Wood River Shop N Save sold or gave alcoholic beverages to Clifford Enos on May 17, 2007.

Gold claims after Enos purchased the alcohol he consumed it causing him to become intoxicated.

He claims while Enos was drunk, he was struck in the head with a roofing hammer which caused him to sustain serious injuries.

According to Gold, his injuries caused and will continue to cause medical expenses, pain and disability.

Represented by G. Edward Moorman of Alton, Gold is seeking damages in excess of $15,000, but less than $50,000.

The case is set for mandatory arbitration.
