Patient claims CT tech slammed hand on machine

A woman allegedly injured during a CT scan at Alton Memorial Hospital filed a personal injury suit against the hospital in Madison County Circuit Court Dec. 18, alleging she has sustained damages in excess of $50,000.

Represented by Dawna Hale and Lance Mallon of Wood River, Sarah Mitchell alleges that during an Aug. 14, 2006, CT scan ordered by her physician, her hand was injured when the technician conducting the scan slammed her hand down on the machine.

Mitchell claims the hospital was careless and negligent by:

  • failing to assist her during the CT scan;

  • failing to review the work and qualifications of persons on its staff; and

  • employing and engaging incompetent and unskilled personnel.

    Mitchell claims her left hand injuries have caused and will continue to cause pain and suffering, medical expenses and a disability.

    The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David Hylla.
