Union Pacific worker files complaint in St. Clair County

A former railroad fireman and engineer has filed a Federal Employers' Liability Act lawsuit against Union Pacific Railroad in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Gordon L. Long claims he was exposed to repetitive stresses, cumulative traumas to his back and the structures therein as a result of riding in locomotives, walking on uneven ballast surfaces, dismounting locomotives, bending, twisting and operating switches and handbrakes.

Long was employed from August 1974 through April 2006, according to the suit filed Oct. 30.

Represented by William P. Gavin on Belleville, Long is seeking in excess of $100,000 in damages.

He also is seeking compensation under the Locomotive Boiler Inspection Act.
