Rudy Teason of Cahokia filed a Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA) suit against his employer Union Pacific Railroad over injuries he sustained more than two years ago.
Teason, a carman working in the railroad's Dupo yard, tore his left rotator cuff on May 26, 2005, while replacing a coupler tail pin on a rail car.
Among other things, he claims the railroad failed to have proper machinery to assist in the replacement and failed to train him in the correct procedure in replacing the coupler tail pin.
He also claims he had to undergo hospitalization and surgery for his injury.
The suit, filed Sept. 26 in Sept. 26 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, claims Teason lost wages and benefits, incurred medical expenses and suffered pain.
"Plaintiff's ability to work, labor and enjoy the normal pursuits of life has been impaired and lessened all to Plaintiff's damage in a sum to be determined," the complaint states.
Represented by Mark P. DuPont of Dupo, Teason is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages.
