Alton School District sued for uneven walking surface

A woman who fractured her right leg and knee at Lovejoy Elementary School in Alton filed a personal injury suit alleging Alton School District #11 failed to provide a good, safe and proper place for her to walk at the school.

In a suit filed Aug. 24 in Madison County Circuit Court, Carole Thomeczek claims she was dropping her grandchild off at the school on Sept. 5, 2006, and while exiting the school tripped over an uneven surface.

Thomeczek claims the school district failed to provide a proper means of ingress and egress to and from the premises, failed to inspect the premises to ensure it was in a safe and proper condition and failed to warn her of the alleged unsafe, defective and dangerous condition.

She claims her injuries have caused and will continue to cause pain of the body and mind, medical expenses and lost wages.

Represented by Samuel Mormino of Alton, Thomeczek is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder.
