Man injured after garbage truck's hydraulics fail

St. Clair County resident Bruce Ward is seeking in excess of $1 million for injuries he sustained at Custom Steel Processing in Madison when a garbage truck's hydraulic lift malfunctioned.

According to a lawsuit filed July 27 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, parts of Ward's body were pinned and crushed during an incident July 29, 2005. Custom Steel Processing is located at 1001 College St.

Ward claims he suffered injuries to his head, arms, hands and nerves.

Represented by Rhonda D. Fiss of Belleville, Ward also names Autocar LLC, Volvo White Truck Corp., White Motor Co. and other unknown individuals as defendants.

Among other things, Ward claims the defendants should have expected that he would not discover or realize the danger posed by the truck or that he would fail to protect himself against its danger.

He also claims the incident would not have happened had those in charge used due care.
