The city of Centreville, its mayor and police chief are being sued by a man who claims he was jailed without warrant or probable cause.
Hersel Jones "was a person of good reputation" in the community in which he resided at the time he was arrested July 6 by police Sgt. Perlisa Wright.
Jones, represented by Bruce Carr of East St. Louis, claims he was not guilty of any criminal offense when he was seized by Wright and forced to accompany her to the police station.
The suit names Centreville Mayor Marius Jackson and Police Chief Larry Wynn as defendants.
Jones claims the actions of the city, Jackson and Wynn were malicious, wilful and in wanton disregard of his rights and feelings.
His suit seeks at least $50,000 in damages.
