Smokey Bills Tavern named in dramshop, battery suit

Mary Hych of St. Clair County filed a $200,000 lawsuit against Smokey Bills Tavern in Centreville, its owner William Robinson and Darlene Jones, claiming she was attacked with fists and a microphone on New Year's Day.

According to a suit filed June 25 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Hych claims Robinson and Jones struck her repeatedly about the head, face, neck and body while she was a patron on Jan. 1.

The suit claims that Robinson was charged with and found guilty of battery and Jones was charged with and pled guilty to battery.

"That at the time and place of the occurrence, William Robinson was intoxicated," the complaint states.

"That at the time and place of the occurrence, Darlene Jones was intoxicated," the complaint states.

Hych is represented by Scott Hassebrock of Brown & Brown in Fairview Heights.
