Burroughs firm sues ComEd for unpaid legal bills

The Edwardsville law firm Burroughs, Hepler, Broom, MacDonald, Hebrank and True claims Commonwealth Edison Company failed to pay various legal bills in a lawsuit filed June 20 in Madison County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, ComEd retained the Burroughs firm to represent them in several lawsuits filed in Madison County and agreed to pay them for the services rendered.

"The services were reasonable, necessary, and authorized by ComEd for the defense of the lawsuits," the complaint states.

"ComEd has refused and failed to pay plaintiff for the majority of the professional services rendered despite numerous requests for payment by plaintiff."

The firm claims the breach of contract has damaged them in the amount of $52,932.80 plus attorney fees and the cost of the filing the suit.

Brenda Baum, Anne Schmidt and James Grabowski of Burroughs will represent the firm.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian.
