A Dupo man is suing his former employer Union Pacific Railroad Co. for injuries sustained while attempting to mount a railroad car.
In the complaint filed April 25 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, James M. Pyle alleges severe and permanent injuries to his bones, muscle, cartilage, ligaments, tissues and nerves of his back for an incident that took place March 23.
He is seeking in excess of $100,000, plus costs, claiming disability, lost wages and medical expenses.
Pyle, who worked as a conductor at Union Pacific's Sparta facility, is represented by Kenneth P. Danzinger of Callis, Papa, Hale, Szewczyk & Danzinger in Granite City.
He is seeking damages under the Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA), claiming the railroad failed to provide a safe place to work, and under the Safety Appliances Act (SAA), claiming a grab iron was not secure.
