An Edwarsdville businessman is running as a Republican write-in candidate for Madison County treasurer in the March 21 primary.
Kurt Prenzler, who owns a day care center in St. Louis and is an invester in historic building renovation projects, said leadership change is needed in the county's top fiscal office.
"Government has to be accountable to taxpayers' interests," Prenzler said.
His entry in the race comes somewhat late.
"I anticipated that a high-quality candidate would file on the Republican ticket for County Treasurer, but this did not materialize," said Prenzler when he announced his candidacy Monday.
Prenzler needs at least 305 write in votes to certify his position on the November general election ballot.
"I am now looking forward to being an integral part of Madison County government," he said.
Prenzler is a certified public accountant and a University of Illinois law school graduate. He passed the bar exams in Illinois and Colorado, but has never practiced law.
He graduated from the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in accounting.
Prenzler, a native of Bloomington, is married and has three children. His extended family is in the real estate development and homebuilding business in Bloomington.
