Plaintiff Percy Staten is suing East St. Louis School District 189 claiming he was not warned of dangers posed by liquid wax that was on the floor of a school he was exiting.
Staten, represented by John H. Hustava of Collinsville, is seeking at least $50,000 in damages for injuries he sustained when he slipped on wax at A.M. Jackson School.
The accident occurred at 8:30 a.m. on May 17, 2005.
According to the suit filed Jan. 30 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Staten severely injured his left shoulder and suffered extensive injuries to his head, body and limbs. As a result, he claims he was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled.
"The defendant negligently failed to install signs to warn the plaintiff of such dangerous conditions," the complaint states.
