Schnucks sued for falling coffee cans

Falling coffee cans from a Schnucks supermarket shelf were grounds for a personal injury lawsuit filed by Pamela Seales in St. Clair County Court.

In the Jan. 25 suit, Seales claims she suffered severe head injuries when two large metal cans of coffee and one small plastic coffee container was pushed off a shelf while an employee was stocking it.

According to the complaint, Seales was shopping at Schnucks in East St. Louis on Jan. 4, 2005.

She accuses Schnucks of improperly stacking items and failing to warn her that the goods were improperly stacked.

Seales claims the coffee cans caused injuries to her neck, shoulder and low back and claims the injuries have caused her to suffer a disability.

She also claims she was required to seek medical attention, has lost wages, suffered an impairment of future earnings and has experienced pain and suffering.

"Schnucks breached its duty of care towards Pamela Seales, and by its acts of negligence caused Seales injuries," the complaint states.

Seales is seeking damages in excess of $50,000. She is represented by Thomas Rich of Fairview Heights.
