Estate sues ambulance for getting lost

Medstar Ambulance Headquarters in Belleville

A lost ambulance driver is to blame for a Belleville woman's death, according to a suit filed in St. Clair County Circuit Court Dec. 22.

Teresa Hoffman, executor of Jacqueline Tribout's estate, claims that Tribout died from a heart attack Jan. 15, 2004, because Medstar Ambulance Service could not find 316 Mossy Creek Dr. in time.

Mossy Creek Drive is in the old Chenot Place near Belleville East High School. The cross streets are Shady Lane and Holly Drive.

Hoffman claims that Medstar acted with reckless disregard by failing to determine the proper location of the address prior to leaving its dispatch location, failing to ask other emergency services or departments the location of the address and failed to read or use proper maps or direction devices to locate the address.

As a result of the alleged negligent acts of Medstar, Tribout experienced pain and suffering prior to her death; her kin have lost their society with her and have spent money for treatment and services, Hoffman claims.

Represented by James Williams of The Law Offices of Williams, Caponi and Associates, Hoffman is seeking a judgment against Medstar in excess of $50,000.

Medstar operates out of Sparta and maintains 11 ambulance bases in three counties.

Medstar's Belleville base is located at 610 East Main, which is 2.6 miles from Mossy Creek Drive.
