Brother sues Kenneth Hall Hospital for sister's death

Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital

Ron Kramper of St. Libory filed a wrongful death suit against Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital in St. Clair County Circuit Court Nov. 21, seeking damages in excess of $50,000.

Kramper claims that on April 19, his sister, Diane Kramper of Belleville, died while she was a patient at Kenneth Hall in East St. Louis.

According to the Kramper, Kenneth Hall failed to effectively clear Diane’s airway leading to cardio-pulmonary arrest after she had been found choking on food.

Kramper also claims that the hospital delayed resuscitating Diane which caused her to suffer injuries that resulted in her death.

“The plaintiff has received a Certificate of Merit from a consulting physician indicating that there is reasonable cause for filing a medical malpractice action against Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital, including its agents, servants, employees, physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers,” the complaint states.

The unsigned certificate Kramper attached as “exhibit A” states, “I have reviewed the pertinent medical documents concerning the care and treatment of Diane Kramper and in my opinion there is a reasonable and meritorious cause for filing medical malpractice acting against Dr. Patel (first name unknown) because he deviated from the acceptable standards of medical practice on April 13, 2005, by failing to clear Kramper’s airway leading to cardiopulmonary arrest.”

Kramper claims he and his three brothers have been damaged as a result of the wrongful death as they have lost the society, companionship, love, affection and consortium of their sister.

He also claims Diane was caused to suffer great pain and discomfort and required considerable medical attention prior to her death.

Kramper is represented by Bernard Ysursa of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin of Belleville.
