Property owner sued for hole in sidewalk

925 Wallace in Alton

Frances Goree filed a personal injury suit against Major Real Estate Company of Alton, alleging that she was injured at one of its rental properties.

In the suit filed Nov. 10 in Madison County Circuit Court, Goree alleges she was attending a birthday party on Aug. 15, when she tripped on a hole in the sidewalk causing her to fall with great force and violence.

According to the complaint, the property owner failed to exercise reasonable care to keep the sidewalk free from potential tripping hazards, failed to warn her that it had a hole and failed to place a sign, painted stripe or other means of suitable protection in the area of the hole.

Goree claims she sustained severe and permanent injuries to her elbow, shoulder and upper back which caused great physical pain and mental anguish which made her unable to perform her usual activities.

Represented by Michael Glisson of Alton, Goree is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 plus costs of the suit.
