Ronald Tenpas
Ronald Tenpas, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois since November 2003, was appointed Associate Deputy Attorney General by Acting Deputy Attorney General Robert McCallum, Jr.
Tenpas will begin his new job on Nov. 14, and resign his current position shortly before then
He served as an assistant U.S. Attorney for Maryland from 1999 until he was appointed to serve in Southern Illinois. From 1997 through 1999 he served as assistant U.S. Attorney for the middle district of Florida.
"For eight years Ron Tenpas has built an impressive record of service to the Department of Justice," McCallum said in a prepared statement.
"He has tried and investigated a large number of matters, including offenses involving narcotics transportation and distribution, violent crime, health care fraud, identity theft, government fraud and other white collar offenses and public office corruption offenses such as vote buying."
Tenpas also worked at the law firm of Carlton Fields in Tampa, Fla., has clerked for Former Chief Justice William Rehnquist, clerked for Judge Howard Holtzman, Iran-United States Claims Tribunal at the Hague in the Netherlands and for U.S. District Judge Louis Pollak.
In Feburary, Tenpas was appointed to serve on the attorney general's Advisory Committee.
Tenpas was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to attend Oxford University where he studied philosophy, politics and economics. He received his bachelor's degree with high honors in international relations from Michigan State and received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
