Med mal suit lodged against Memorial Hospital and doctors

Belleville Memorial Hospital

George Odom filed a medical malpractice suit against Belleville Memorial Hospital, Bryan Franks, M.D., Thomas Byrne, M.D., Edward Morgan, M.D. and Belleville Emergency Physicians in St. Clair County Circuit Court Sept. 29, seeking damages in excess of $250,000.

Odom claims that the defendants failed to properly and timely diagnose and treat his spinal cord compression. He sought treatment on Dec. 21 and 25, 2004,

According to Odom, the defendants also failed to perform a complete and accurate neurological and radiological studies of his spine and failed to institute appropriate treatment for spinal metastases and cord compression.

Due to the defendants’ alleged negligence and carelessness, Odom claims his pancreatic cancer metastasized to his bone in his back causing paralysis and constant pain and suffering.

He also claims he has became liable for great sums of money for medical care and has lost large sums of money from an impairment in his earning capacity.

Odom is represented by Joseph Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin of Belleville.
