Reilly Industries named in personal injury suit by former worker

Reilly Industries in Granite

Reilly Industries in Granite City faces a $50,000 lawsuit by a former worker claiming permanent injuries from a Jan. 28, 2004 tank explosion.

Santel Underwood, a pipe fitter, filed the complaint July 18 in Madison County Circuit Court claiming Reilly was negligent for failing to remove hazardous or flammable fumes from the tank and de-pressurizing it.

According to Underwood, he was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and suffered extensive injuries to his head, body, and limbs, became liable for medical expenses, experienced pain and suffering, and has lost wages and will suffer an impairment of future earnings.

Underwood is represented by James Williams of Williams, Caponi & Associates of Belleville. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian.
