Dog bite suit marks St. Clair County's 400th

Thomas Goldner's O'Fallon home

Derek Onstott filed the 400th lawsuit in St. Clair County's Law Division July 7 seeking damages for a dog bite that allegedly occurred at Thomas Goldner's O'Fallon home April 1.

Onstott claims that Goldner gave him permission to inspect a recently installed fence when Goldner's chow German shepherd mix allegedly bit him several times on the lower left leg.

According to the complaint, Goldner was negligent for keeping a dog which had dangerous propensities. He also failed to control or adequately chain his dog when he knew a stranger could be bitten, and failed to warn Onstott that the dog may bite him.

Onstott claims he sustained numerous and diverse injuries to his leg, incurred medical expenses, lost wages, has severe scarring and will require future medical care. He also suffered psychological and emotional distress.

Represented by Michael Read of Belleville, Onstott is seeking at least $100,000 in damages plus all costs of the suit.
