Jury awards $13,498 to accident victim

A Madison County jury ordered Steven Stout and Derek Gallaher to pay $13,498.94 to Michael Dill for injuries he sustained in an auto accident six years ago.

Dill, who was seeking in excess of $50,000, was a passenger in a 1990 Nissan pickup being driven by Gallaher on Aug. 1, 1999, when Stout collided with them.

The jury awarded the following to Dill:

  • Loss of a normal life experienced, $2,000
  • The value of earnings lost, $1,950
  • Reasonable medical care and treatment, $6,578.94
  • Pain and suffering experienced, $2,950

Dill accused Stout of failing to keep his vehicle under control and for rear-ending a vehicle that pulled off onto the shoulder.

According to his complaint, Gallaher was driving east on I-70 near Bluff City when he stopped on the shoulder. Dill claimed Gallaher parked in a dangerous place in a “no parking zone.”

Represented by Bob Perica of Alton, Dill alleged head, neck and back injuries, as well as lost wages and pain and suffering.

Circuit Judge Philip Kardis presided over the trial which lasted two days.
